Government House Historical Society The Society began as the Saskatchewan House Committee in 1969 to lobby for the restoration of Saskatchewan House. A board was formed, made up of representatives from the Council of Women, The Chamber of Commerce, the IODE and other local organizations. The Committee became "The Society for the Preservation and Restoration of Saskatchewan House" in 1971. The Society was successful in having Saskatchewan House declared an historical site in 1971 and restoration was started in 1977. The official opening was September 4, 1980 with the House designated as Government House at that time. Public access to the facility began on May 17th, 1981.
